The Ovation’s origin story is an interesting one. From early talks way back during Lansing Mayor David Hollister’s administration, to multiple feasibility studies decades later, to the detailed plans we have today, the Ovation has been a long time coming. We had the opportunity to dive into this origin story (and more!) with the Michigan Reimagined podcast.
On top of covering how the Ovation came to be, our founding director, Dominic Cochran, chats about our plans for the Ovation, its funding sources, and the economic and cultural impacts it will have on our area. (And, as an added bonus, Dominic also shares a bit on his first-ever concert at the Lansing Civic Center and its legendary shows.)
“The North Star for the Ovation is making this the best experience it can possibly be from the very first show,” Dominic says. “People are going to come out and give it a shot and see one or two shows. I’m taking the stance that we need to wow them from the beginning so they’ll keep coming back. The same is true for artists, too.”
Michigan Reimagined is a Mid-Michigan-centric podcast that shares the stories of the people and organizations driving Michigan’s economic sustainability. Host Chris Buck leads conversations with local business leaders, nonprofits, community organizations, and more that are working to improve our region. We were honored to be a part of it — give it a listen!
